Pairs

The drawings in this section explore the relationships that can exist between two figures. Some celebrate the tenderness of a new child being held by a parent, grandparent or, in timeless works inspired by Leonardo and Michelangelo, the Virgin and Child.
Others observe the quiet process of friendship, whether between people and animals or between people themselves. Together they explore the many ways in which affection, trust, companionship and shared experience can be expressed through the simple presence of two figures.
