About Victor
Victor Lunn-Rockliffe has drawn and painted for as long as he can remember. Although he once considered becoming a full-time artist, he spent more than thirty years working in government export credit insurance. Throughout those years, drawing remained a constant, and much of the work he produced during that period was collected in Drawing ECGD 1973–2006.
Since retiring, Victor has been able to give art a larger place in his life. His pictures often begin with ordinary scenes and unfold into stories, discovering humour, strangeness and mystery in everyday experience. Drawing also offers him a way to explore ideas that resist easy explanation.
With Richard Lang, he created The Man With No Head, a graphic biography of the philosopher Douglas Harding. First published in 2017, the book has since been translated into seven languages.
Since 2017, Victor’s main project has been the Living Scroll, an ongoing visual journal drawn across successive ten-metre lengths of paper. Combining observation, memory and imagination, it records the passing world while allowing unexpected connections and stories to emerge.
This website brings together work from across Victor’s life, from his early drawings to his continuing projects.
