The New Studio

Studio

Before the images move further afield, they begin in the studio, where many of the drawings on this website were made. Built in 2019 by converting a garage that had originally been designed with this possibility in mind, the studio has become the centre of Victor’s working life.
The images include the conversion of the building, its relationship to the garden, studies of objects within the studio, and views looking out from it.

Building the Studio

Before the new studio was built, Victor worked wherever space was available, including a bedroom and the kitchen table, creating panoramas and the Living Scroll. In 2019, the old garage was converted into a purpose-built studio, shown here during construction and after completion, inside and out.

At Work in the Studio

The studio itself provides many of Victor’s subjects, as well as a place in which to construct others. Familiar objects, still lifes, a plaster bust of Hygieia, the mirror and views through the windows are explored through drawings and sequences, sometimes returning to the same subject in different ways.
