Cartoons About Art is a collection of drawings, cartoons and visual reflections on the strange business of making art.

The book grew out of Victor’s experiences as an artist trying to navigate the shift from traditional drawing and painting into the increasingly bewildering world of digital image-making. Along the way he found himself repeatedly amused, puzzled, irritated and occasionally inspired by the questions art throws up: What is originality? Why do artists suffer so much self-doubt? What exactly are we looking for when we make pictures? And why does the whole process so often become unintentionally comic?

The cartoons range from light-hearted observations of studio life and artistic pretension to more thoughtful reflections on creativity, technology and the mystery of perception itself. Some are playful, some satirical, some quietly philosophical — but all are rooted in the everyday realities of trying to make images that feel alive.

Rather than offering theories or answers, the book simply invites the reader to share in the humour, absurdity and occasional wonder of the creative process.
